International exchange and domestic visitors
March 17, 2020
Dear Colleagues –
In light of the rapidly evolving COVID-19 developments, I am writing to inform you of the decision to temporarily suspend all new international exchange and domestic visitors to Johns Hopkins, including visiting students, faculty, and scholars that would fall under the JHU Visitor Policy. This pause will occur until further notice as decisions regarding instruction and research activities evolve.
Below is an email that will be sent to all international visitors who are not yet in the US from the Office of International Services later today. Each school will be responsible for contacting domestic visitors who are not yet at JHU and informing them of the decision to suspend their visit to Johns Hopkins. Note that this is a blanket decision and we cannot accommodate case-by-case review and decisions at this time.
Visitors who are currently here at JHU are not impacted by this decision, but we strongly urge you to work with them in a manner consistent with other JHU affiliates with respect to instruction, research, and on-campus activities. Visitors (particularly students, both domestic and international) are encouraged to return to their home institution to the extent possible. Please ensure that your faculty sponsors are communicating university policies and decisions to current visitors and that they are cognizant of the current disruptions and resources as detailed on the University Coronavirus Website.
We ask that you also inform your faculty about this decision and know they and their visitors will be disappointed. However, we believe it is an appropriate decision in light of current public health disruptions. Please contact me and Associate Vice Provost James Brailer if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Stephen J. Gange
Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs & Professor of Epidemiology
